The Serbian D visa is a long-term entry visa granted to foreign nationals who intend to live and work in Serbia for over 90 days but less than 1 year. It’s typically the first step before applying for a work and residence permit once the person arrives in Serbia.
Main Purposes
- Employment (the most common reason)
- Education or internship
- Business or investment
- Family reunion
- Missionary, humanitarian, or volunteer work
Duration and Validity
- Valid for up to 180 days (6 months)
- Allows multiple entries into Serbia
- Usually issued to facilitate the process of obtaining a residence/work permit after arrival
D Visa for Foreign Workers
For workers from countries like Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, the D visa is often used when they are recruited by Serbian employers through a licensed agency.
Once they arrive, they apply for a Unified Work and Residence Permit, which authorizes them to live and work legally for 1–3 years (renewable).
Recent Update (Important for Recruiters & Employers)
Since March 2025, Serbia has removed the Labor Market Test requirement for D-Visa holders meaning:
- Employers no longer must prove that there are no local candidates available.
- Hiring foreign workers is now faster and simpler.
